Different Forms of Exercise

By Aaron Thomas

  Strength Training
Many people associate strength training as a bodybuilder type workout or not as important as cardio. The truth is, muscle workouts is certainly beneficial to both sexes and should be part of a well-balanced fitness program. Strength training can be used to achieve a particular look, whether you want a ripped, muscley look or a lean, toned body. There are many forms of strength training, including using your own body weight, heavy weights, or light weights high reps. The choices are endless. Doing cardio alone will do your body no favors as you need lean muscle to efficiently burn calories.
Cardio
Cardio is your heart's best friend and does wonders for your body and mind. It does seem that cardio is the first thing to get skipped when someone is feeling unmotivated. This is true, I believe, because of the amount of exertion people use when doing cardio. If you are having a bad day, sometimes it can be hard to psych yourself up for such a feat. However, I have found that cardio actually makes you feel better afterwards. It releases powerful endorphins and pumps feel-good vibes through your bloodstream. It keeps you healthy and ready to conquer the world. And of course, it burns calories! The key is to pick the type of cardio you want to do. If running's not your thing, don't worry!
Aerobics
Whether it be water, step, or dance, Aerobics is a sure fire way to have fun and blast fat. Many people who find repetitive cardio to be dull or bulking love aerobics. Aerobic at home exercises will get you pumped to have a good time while working out and it challenges the mind. Because aerobics usually involves some type of choreography, you are constantly evolving and are kept on your toes while you perform the workout. Aerobics have been popular since the Jane Fonda days and they are here to stay because it is fun and you can get lost to your own iPod playlist. The key is trying different kinds until you find your match. Aerobics involves patience in order to learn the moves or steps, but the feeling of achievement you get once you know them is pretty wonderful! A wonderful thing about aerobics is they can be modified or intensified.
Stretching
You may be reading this thinking, come on, I know how to stretch. But you'd really be surprised how many people forget this very critical part of a fitness regimen. Stretching not only revitalizes your body, but it prevents injury and plateau and promotes healthy flexibility. Even if you're not the most limber you should be stretching on a regular basis before and especially after workouts. It is a good idea to take an honest look at yourself and ask if you are really stretching enough. Stretching is one of the most healthy things you can do!
